Australian Civilian Service Medal 1939-1945: Awarded for the service of civilians who served in Australia during World War II in organisations that were subject to military-like arrangements and conditions of service, in arduous circumstances, in support of the war effort. The Medal is made of bronze and portrays the Southern Cross symbolising Australia, surrounded by Golden Wattle, which represents the civil population combining in defence of Australia. The ribbon consists of three broad vertical bands of equal width and two white stripes. The ochre colour represents the soil of Australia and green represents the land and food production; and the white stripes represent communications and construction. The regulations governing the award of the Medal provide the conditions of service that need to be met to be eligible for the Medal.
