The Australian Defence Regimental Fashion Tie: Available in easy-care, crease-resistant, colour-fast, custom-woven, precision-woven polyester, you’ll be the envy of your mates when you step out wearing one of these. Nothing says “I served” like wearing a tie inspired by the design and pattern of the Australian Defence Medal – the medal issued to everyone since the end of World War II who has completed their initial service obligation with honour. Any business guru will tell you the right tie provides a professional look promoting credibility, respect, and ultimately, success. This is one fashion item that will set you apart from everyone else in civvie dress – making you instantly recognisable as a current or past member of Australia’s Defence Force – one of the finest and most respected in the free world.

In civvie dress, your tie says a lot about you. By its colours, its pattern, its knot, it announces your taste and style to the rest of the world – ties really are a strong personal statement.

We can become very much attached to certain ties that we own and proper care is more important than ever in ensuring that these personal statements not only look presentable but last as long as possible.

Some care tips for ties:

  • Hang your ties up at night, and undo the knots – don’t leave the knots in them as they will permanently crease the fabric.
  • When travelling, fold the tie gently into four and slip it in the inside pocket of your suit jacket. On arrival, hang the tie on the bathroom door before you shower, the steam will do wonders for relaxing the fabric.
  • Avoid stains by tucking a napkin in your shirt collar; don’t worry about the ‘wooss’ image and you won’t need to worry about stains. Remember your tie is a thing of beauty not a bib.
  • Don’t dry clean ties. Typically they will press those wonderful rolled edges flat.
  • To remove spots, simply dip a clean cloth in a little antacid or soda water and then dab away what you can. For greasy spots, sprinkle a little talcum powder on the spot as soon as possible and allow it to absorb what it can. After a few hours, brush off the remaining residue with a clean soft cloth.
  • Tie tacks can dress up the tie, and add an interesting splash of decor to ties and they keep the tie in place – which also could mean out of your soup or keep it from flapping in your face. However, we they can leave tiny holes in the precious fabric. To prevent those holes, and still keep your tie in place, insert the tie tack on the back of your tie through the label or fabric keeper and then attach it to your shirt. This will keep the tie nicely in place, and no holes on the front of the tie.
  • Because your favourite ties get the most use, get a small hand steamer and gently steam away the wrinkles that usually form around the fabric where the knot is tied

Taking care of your tie collection will provide the best life span for your favourite items of personal decor.
